My grandmother painted on mud walls. I paint on silk. But the soul of every brushstroke is the same prayer.

A Life Devoted
to the Brush

Sunita Devi grew up watching her grandmother paint the walls of their home in Ranti village, Madhubani. Every marriage, birth, and festival was marked by paintings โ€” fish for prosperity, peacocks for beauty, lotus for purity. These weren't just decorations; they were prayers.

"When I pick up my brush, I feel the hands of every woman before me guiding it. This art is not mine alone โ€” it belongs to all the women of Mithila."

At 22, she began teaching other women in her village, believing that Madhubani art could provide economic independence to rural women. Today, her collective โ€” Mithila Kala Kendra โ€” trains over 50 women artisans and ships their work across the world.

What We Believe

Our Philosophy

๐ŸŒฑ
Art as Livelihood
Every purchase directly supports the artisan who created it. We believe art should nourish the artist โ€” not just galleries and middlemen.
๐Ÿ“ฟ
Preserving Heritage
Madhubani painting is a 2,000-year-old living tradition. We document techniques, train the next generation, and ensure this art never becomes a museum piece.
โ™ป๏ธ
Earth-Conscious
Traditional Madhubani uses natural pigments โ€” turmeric, indigo, lamp black, flowers. We honor this by using eco-friendly materials wherever possible.
๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง
Women First
Madhubani was historically women's art. Our collective is 95% women-led โ€” creating financial independence and social dignity for rural artisans.
๐Ÿค
Fair Trade
Every artist receives fair, transparent pricing. No exploitation, no sweatshop conditions โ€” just skilled craftswomen earning what they deserve.
๐ŸŒ
Global Reach
Bihar's art deserves a global stage. We ship to 18 countries, work with international galleries, and bring Mithila's magic to living rooms worldwide.
